We are a farm and equine animal practice in Totnes, first established in XXXX. We are passionate about animal care and our skilled team of veterinarians and vet nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals. Because we love animals and strive to provide excellent continuity of care, we are open five days a week and have access to 24-hour emergency care.
Chris qualified from Liverpool University in 1984 and has worked at Totnes since then, originally as a partner in Hair, Beaumont & Partners/Dart Vale Veterinary Group. Chris is interested in all aspects of veterinary clinical work, latterly spending most of his working time in the large animal field, from scanning dairy cows, TB testing and equine emergencies all the way down to backyard poultry flocks. Chris enjoys seeing animals happy and healthy. He mentors our new young team of large animal vets at South Devon Farm and Equine. Outside of work Chris enjoys keeping up to date with current affairs and politics, most sports, gardening, walking and cycling. He is currently aiming for another GB cycling qualification to participate the senior amateur world road race in Poland 2019.
David Gabriel BVSc MRCVS
Senior Equine Vet
David qualified from the University of Bristol as long ago as 1973, and has been in general practice ever since as an assistant, partner and practice owner. For the last 20 years he has dealt mainly and then exclusively with equine patients and deems it a privilege to care for these magnificent animals. Away from work horses still dominate his life as he rides his beloved Cob Jack and supports his wife, Liz, who competes at affiliated dressage with their Trakehner gelding, Raymond. In addition, there are their sheep, cats, poultry and tortoises to look after as well as loud music and New World red wines to explore.
Tanja Van Loon
Tanja is originally from the Netherlands and went to university in Belgium, where she qualified as a vet in 2014. She worked in a mixed practice in Northern Ireland for three years before joining us. As you can maybe tell, Tanja enjoys traveling and loves to see a bit of the world. She is a self proclaimed adrenaline junkie who likes trying new sports and loves the outdoors. Tanja also enjoys being creative (in all sorts of ways) and reading books. She's always had many 'special’ pets (think rats, snakes, tarantulas and leeches!) but since moving here hasn't gotten any yet.
Joseph Whittle BVM&S MRCVS
Joe qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. He then worked in a large animal/equine practice in Dumfriesshire in the South West of Scotland before moving to Devon in 2017. His main interests are in equine practice, which is where he predominantly works these days. Away from work he enjoys horse racing and most other sports. As well as walks with his dog, Erin, who you may have met as she often rides along on calls.
